Merrifield Consultants are delighted to be partnering with a prominent national charity to recruit an Accounts Payable Team Leader. The National Charity is a well-established organisation with a significant presence across the UK, making a meaningful difference in communities nationwide.

This role presents an excellent opportunity for an experienced Accounts Payable professional to join a large, centralised finance operation at their London headquarters. The successful candidate will lead a team of accounts payable assistants, ensuring the delivery of efficient payment processing services across multiple operational divisions.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop a team of 6-8 Accounts Payable Assistants, providing mentorship and ensuring optimal performance.
  • Support the development and monitoring of team KPIs and SLAs.
  • Oversee the validation and processing of high-volume supplier invoices.
  • Manage payment runs and ensure accurate, timely supplier payments.
  • Handle escalated supplier queries and resolve complex payment issues.
  • Maintain process documentation and ensure compliance with organisational policies.
  • Produce monthly reconciliations and management reports.
  • Oversee purchase card administration and monitoring.

Person Specification:Essential:

  • Extensive accounts payable experience within a large, multi-fund organisation.
  • Proven team leadership experience with strong people management skills.
  • Experience with U4BW, Agresso or equivalent P2P ERP systems.
  • Advanced Excel skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • AAT qualified (or equivalent experience).
  • Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills.

Desirable:

  • Charity sector experience
  • ACCA or CIMA qualifications (or studying towards).
  • Understanding of charity sector VAT implications.
  • Experience with vendor statement reconciliation.
