An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Accounts and Business Services Assistant Manager to join a well-established firm in London. This role offers a dynamic, supportive, and collaborative environment where you can play a key role in delivering high-level accounting services while managing a small portfolio of clients.
In this position, you will oversee the delivery of accounting services to a select group of clients, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and statutory requirements. You will also provide technical advice and manage several key operational aspects of the business.
What you will be doing as an Assistant Manager in the Business Services team:
- Financial Statements & Tax: Carry out the first review of financial statements and corporation tax for manager/partner review.
- VAT & Management Accounts: Review VAT returns and management accounts for accuracy and compliance.
- Compliance & Deadlines: Ensure that all client files comply with accounting standards and tax regulations, and that deadlines are met consistently.
- Client Portfolio Management: Manage a small portfolio of clients, ensuring timely completion of work and quality service delivery.
- Team Leadership: Assist in the management of your client team (the 'pod') including resourcing, performance reviews, and providing guidance to trainees.
- Billing & Budgeting: Oversee the management of WIP (work in progress) and ensure timely billing and recovery of fees.
What you'll need to succeed
- ACCA, ACA, CIMA, or equivalent qualification.
- Strong knowledge of Xero and other cloud-based software.
- In-depth understanding of VAT rules and regulations.
- Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Experience dealing with HMRC.
- Excellent interpersonal and team-working skills with a proactive, solution-oriented approach.
- Ability to lead by example and manage a team effectively.
- Strong work ethic and a willingness to take on new challenges.
