Ambition is partnering with a global Top 20 accountancy firm to recruit an Audit Manager for their Not-for-Profit (NFP) team. In this role, you will be part of the reviewing team, overseeing compliance work done by interns and first reviewers on Annual Governance and Accountability Returns (AGARs) from smaller authorities, primarily Parish Councils.

Outside of the busy season, you can expect an excellent work-life balance. The firm offers flexible working arrangements with three days in the office and two days from home, and core hours from 10am to 4pm. This role provides a strong opportunity to advance to a senior manager position in the near future.

This position is ideal for someone already working in an NFP/social purpose audit role or someone passionate about the sector and eager to make a difference.

Responsibilities:

You will be working in a team that will handle around 3,500 returns and be responsible for the final approval of the external auditor report and certificate.

Using the software:

  • Review audit issues and conclusions from interns and first reviewers.
  • Check if the conclusions are appropriate based on the information provided.
  • Identify missing information and ask interns to follow up.
  • Review and approve or amend the draft external auditor report and certificate.
  • Finalise the audit file and external auditor report and certificate.
  • Highlight unusual or significant matters to the wider team for consistency.

Other tasks:

  • Update database records for each review.
  • Respond to queries from interns and first reviewers.
  • Communicate with clerks via email and phone when needed.
  • Help prepare and deliver training for interns and first reviewers, and provide technical support.
  • Manage the performance of interns and first reviewers to meet targets.
  • Update technical materials as needed.
  • Review information from interested parties about the AGAR, including objections.
  • Attend meetings with external parties like the National Audit Office and other audit firms.

  • The Firm's procedures (including our approach to reviews and administrative tasks like timesheets)
  • The Practitioners' Guide

Requirements

  • ACCA/ACA, or equivalent, qualified
  • External auditing experience in the uk is required
  • Experience of the Smaller Authorities Limited Assurance regime is preferred but not essential
  • Extensive experience training, supervision and coordination of junior team members
