An exciting opportunity to join the specialist claim team, in a role focussed on Property & Specialty classes of business. Reporting into the Head of Technical Claims, the successful candidate will be responsible for managing a varied claims portfolio consisting of international property (D&F, Binders & Treaty) and specialty classes of business (Cyber, Political Risk, Engineering and Construction). Responsibility for efficiently handling complex claims on a lead and agreement party basis, including where dispute resolution or litigation is involved. As the Claims Manager, you will be required to mentor team members, to aid their career development plans.

Responsibilities & Accountabilities

  • Proactively handling lead and agreement party claims from first advice to settlement to ensure delivery of the claim commitment and achieve good outcomes.
  • Fostering good relationships with policyholders, brokers, underwriters and reinsurers, and drive excellent customer service.
  • Ensuring that there is prompt and accurate reserving, identifying and pursuing relevant third-party recoveries and salvage opportunities.
  • The strong ability to prioritise where necessary, identifying deadlines, stipulated by lawsuits, demand letters and claims queries.
  • Actively participating in client meetings and market meetings, representing and delivering on the claims proposition
  • Working closely with underwriters providing feedback on claims issues, trends and market intelligence.
  • Identify and report claims related issues to the Head of Technical Claims where necessary and providing support, as required.
  • Providing case specific direction, mentoring and developing team member(s).
  • Inspiring and managing team members to have high levels of employee engagement and business outcomes by taking action that supports a high performance, equitable and inclusive culture.
  • Working with team members to proactively achieve the claims team strategic objectives, aligned to the company’s strategic vision.
  • Undertake any other related duties as may be reasonably required.
  • Working for a regulated Company, you will be expected to perform your duties to the highest of standards, in accordance with the following Conduct Rules as specified by the FCA; act with integrity, act with due care, skill and diligence, be open and co-operative with the FCA, PRA and other regulators, pay due regard to the interests of customers and treat them fairly, and observe proper standards of market conduct.

To be successful in this role, you will need to be/have

  • A sound understanding of the first party insurance sector.
  • Experience in handing Property & Specialty matters.
  • Previous experience of insurance products as either a senior claims handler or broker.
  • Strong understanding of Property & Specialty sector policy wordings.
  • Experience providing informal or formal mentoring to team members.
  • Sound computer skills including Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel and use of ECF/DOCOSoft an advantage.
  • Excellent communication skills and capable of credibly speaking to clients, internal and external stakeholders and leading market meetings and settlement negotiations.
  • Strong mathematical ability an advantage.
  • Dip or CII qualified or equivalent professional qualification.
