Our client, a prestigious international bank, is seeking a Deputy Head of Credit to join their esteemed office based in the City of London. This is a key leadership role where you will be instrumental in upholding the highest standards of credit quality at the approval stage, meticulously monitoring the credit portfolio, managing the full deal cycle and management of the loan facility post-closing. You will ensure strict compliance with Group policies and local regulatory guidelines. This position presents a unique opportunity to make a significant impact within a dynamic and forward-thinking bank. This is a hybrid role, requiring 3 days in the office. This role holds a seat at the banks Credit Committee.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish and maintain a structured end-to-end independent review process for the Credit Approval Unit.
  • Develop and monitor key performance metrics related to risk mitigation, review quality, and efficient processing of credit proposals.
  • Objectively assess and approve credit proposals within delegated authority, identifying key risk issues and providing reasoned conclusions.
  • Coordinate and participate in Credit Committee meetings, including organizing meetings, minuting decisions, and managing approvals through circulation when necessary.
  • Review and update credit policies and procedures in line with Group requirements, industry trends, and regulatory updates.
  • Take ownership of internal and external reporting requirements related to the monitoring of credit facilities.
  • Provide timely and accurate information to external and internal auditors and the compliance function as required.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in credit application revie and transaction management within the UK, with a focus on corporate, SME, and Real Estate / BTL banking products.
  • Proficiency in Excel spreadsheets and database tools.
  • Knowledge of Emerging Markets SMEs, business models, market and industry trends preferred.
  • Experience with workout knowledge for problematic corporate accounts is desirable.
  • Understanding of BASEL, PRA, and FCA risk guidelines, calculations, and policy adherence.
  • Understanding of Risks and Mitigants for On Balance sheet and off-Balance Sheet credit facilities.
