Merrifield Consultants are delighted to be partnering with an International medical research charity to recruit a Director of Finance. The charity manages significant research funding across multiple jurisdictions, with an annual portfolio of approximately £30 million and operations spanning the UK, US, and Europe.

This is an exceptional opportunity for a qualified finance professional to step into a broad-reaching Director role, leading financial strategy, and operations across an international network. The position offers exposure to complex multi-currency operations, strategic financial planning, and the chance to drive system modernisation while working with stakeholders globally.

Key Financial Responsibilities:

  • Lead financial planning and strategy across international operations.
  • Oversee multi-jurisdictional financial operations and reporting (UK, US, Netherlands).
  • Manage statutory accounts production and external audit processes.
  • Drive improvements in financial systems and processes.
  • Direct treasury management and investment strategies.
  • Oversee budgeting and forecasting processes.
  • Manage financial risk and compliance across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Lead a team of qualified finance professionals across international locations.

Person Specification:

  • Qualified accountant (ACCA, AAT or CIMA).
  • Substantial senior financial leadership experience, ideally within the not-for-profit sector.
  • Strong technical knowledge of charity SORP and financial regulations.
  • Experience managing multi-currency, multi-jurisdiction financial operations.
  • Proven track record in year-end statutory accounts and external audit.
  • Experience with financial systems improvement and digital transformation.
  • Knowledge of US and European financial reporting requirements.
  • Experience in leading and developing international teams.
