Finance Manager 12 month FTC - Multi-strategy Investment Management Group

Our client is a market leading global multi strategy investment manager with 10 offices across 3 continents, who manage assets of more than $800 billion.

Function of the role

  • To perform the year-end process, which include compilation of statutory accounts as well as liaising with external auditors. To support the needs of the wider Finance team as required on projects and ad-hoc activities
  • To maintain the books and records of designated Entities and Business Units within the Group, to prepare and present monthly and quarterly results, including cost accounting, transfer pricing, cost summaries, variance analyses, VAT submissions, regulatory reporting, balance sheet account reconciliation and substantiation and to act as a point of contact for entities within the Finance team
  • To assist with the Groups' Sarbanes-Oxley compliant control framework
  • To assist with the incorporation of any acquired entities into the Group reporting framework

Responsibilities

Statutory reporting

  • To ensure year-end accounting adjustments are identified and posted
  • To ensure legal entity books and records are sufficient to support the statutory accounting process
  • Prepare year-end accounting records for designated entities.
  • To prepare appropriate supporting year end analysis schedules to support the annual audit process
  • Prepare draft financial accounts for review for designated entities.
  • To liaise with the auditors during the interim and year-end audit process.
  • Manage the delivery of other audits including internal audits, compliance audits and SOX
  • Remain up to date with accounting rules (IFRS / FRS102) to ensure compliant consolidation and statutory reporting

Maintenance of general ledger

  • To take responsibility for the integrity, accuracy and completeness of accounting records for entities within the Group
  • To enforce a rigorous process for accurate nominal coding
  • To process/review monthly journals for designated entities and cost centres (accruals/prepayments/fixed assets)
  • To prepare/review cost and variance analyses and balance sheet reconciliations for designated entities in accordance with agreed procedures and deadlines, and distribute quarterly MI reports to the business unit heads
  • To prepare/review subsidiary board papers for designated entities in accordance with agreed procedures and deadlines
  • To prepare/review quarterly/annual ONS returns
  • To liaise with Accounts Payable on a regular basis to ensure purchase ledger postings are accurate (including related costs and accruals)
  • To liaise with the revenue accountants on a regular basis to ensure postings on relevant entities are correct, revenue reports are available for distribution and effective credit control has been carried out
  • Ensure that all reconciling differences are identified, investigated and actioned.
  • To liaise with the business unit heads on a regular basis to improve communication, address queries and aim to provide a value-add service
  • To undertake ad-hoc activities required at the request of Finance team management, Group entity managers, auditors and others
  • Post/review monthly transfer pricing and cost-plus calculation between Group subsidiaries
  • VAT submissions for overseas entities and branches

Regulatory reporting

  • Monitor capital and liquidity adequacy in the Group regulated entities
  • Reporting for the UK regulatory consolidation group
  • Assistance with financial regulatory returns, and ensuring that all returns are completed accurately, in a timely manner and in accordance with best practice

Sarbanes-Oxley / Controls

  • Ensuring Finance's controls are compliant, monitored and evidenced

Experience required

  • Excellent grasp of accounts preparation/financial reporting, double entry bookkeeping
  • Experience of working in a group/multi-business environment with multiple cost centres
  • Understanding of need for effective financial control environment
  • Experience of a working as an accountant in a regulated environment

  • Qualified Accountant (eg. ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent qualification)

Skills and knowledge

  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Excel
  • Systems knowledge (SUN accounts package & GITC experience desirable)
  • Consolidation knowledge advantageous
  • Up-to-date technical knowledge of relevant accounting standards and best practice
  • Financial Reporting and Accounts Preparation
  • Variance Analysis, reconciliation and management reporting
  • Written Report writing
