Finance Manager - This leading importer and distributor of the finest Greek food and wine is looking for an experienced Finance Manager to join their dynamic team based in Bermondsey, Southwark, London.

They are looking for a diligent and capable Finance Manager, AAT or part / qualified or qualified by experience, with previous experience in running the finance function of an SME, preferably in the Food, Retail or FMCG industry.

About the role:

As the Finance Manager you will play a vital role in overseeing the financial operations of the group.  You will have responsibility for the day-to-day running of the accounting and commercial side of the business.  You will provide management information on a timely basis to the managers of each business and support their decision making, including investments and understanding and agreeing with the managers what the KPIs are for each business. You will need strong commercial acumen to negotiate with suppliers and customers, manage product pricing, develop discounting strategies and advise the founders.

Key responsibilities:

  • Produce a monthly finance report for the board, including historical reporting and forecasts, including commentary.
  • Optimise the management of cash, take accountability for credit control, and prepare payment runs for approval by the founders.
  • Oversee strong and cost-effective financial accounting and controls, ensuring strong control over costs both to meet budgets and to provide value for money.
  • Reconciliations of accounts: supplier, customer, bank and inter-company.
  • Efficient recording and approval processes for purchasing, cash receipts and payments.
  • Take a leading role in the preparation and maintenance of annual budgets and longer-term financial models.
  • Drive the continuous improvement of end-to-end accounting practices.
  • Co-ordinate production of year-end accounts and tax returns with the accountants in UK and Greece.
  • Accountability for payroll and quarterly VAT returns.
  • Work with the founders to ensure that sufficient, appropriate and cost-effective finance is available for growth.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant tax, financial and reporting legislation requirements in UK and Greece
  • Act as primary contact for key external parties, including tax, accountants and the banks.
  • Commercial:

    • Maintaining pricing spreadsheet, pricing new products, creating new products in our systems.
    • Managing price changes and notifications to customers, updating systems.
    • Develop discounting strategies and ensure sales team adhere to these.
    • Custom/volume pricing and large contract pricing on demand.
    • Negotiating pricing and payment terms with suppliers (GR producers, transporters, and UK suppliers of materials and services).

The successful candidate will have at least 3 years’ experience as a Finance Manager within an SME in the UK, preferably in the Food & Beverage or FMCG industry.

You will be highly proficient in the use of Excel.

You will be self-motivated, energetic, and well organised.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills are a must.

Experience of any of the following will be useful but not essential:

  • Quickbooks, Dear, PowerBI
  • Stripe, Square, Magento, GoCardless
  • Food, Drinks, or FMCG sector
  • Working in/with Greece

Location and Hours

  • Bermondsey, London (5-minute walk from Bermondsey tube station)
  • Monday – Friday 8:30-17:30, full time, permanent position
  • (Some hybrid working after probation)
