Our client is a leading international law firm with over 950 lawyers in 10 offices on three continents. They operate out of eight offices throughout Canada as well as offices in Johannesburg and London. Their seasoned lawyers skilfully advise clients in over 80 practice areas and 50 industries on a regular basis. They specialise working with clients in the mining, energy, infrastructure and banking sectors.

They are now looking for an experienced Finance Supervisor, to provide local office finance support. Working with the wider finance team based in Canada and the London office Finance Assistant.

Responsibilities

  • Be the accounting department point of contact for the London office and supervise the London office Finance Assistant.
  • Maintain financial controls and processes to safeguard assets, meet Solicitors
  • Regulation Authority (SRA) requirements and maintain the integrity of financial data.
  • Supervise and support the monthly and annual financial statement close processes, and the timely reporting of financial results and key performance indicators.
  • Prepare and analyse financial statements, budgets, and regular forecasts to provide accurate financial reports to senior management.
  • Manage cash flow and working capital to optimise financial resources and support business operations.
  • Coordinate financial audits and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Review of the London office VAT returns.
  • Review of monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Support the Compliance Officer for Finance and Administration (COFA).
  • Stand-in support for other members of the London finance team to include but not limited to journal entries and analysis (accruals, prepayments, depreciation, and daily bank reconciliations).
  • Undertaking of such other duties and ad hoc projects and activities which may reasonably be requested to achieve the servicing of the needs of clients and contributing to the efficiency and development of the firm.
  • Overtime may be required from time to time

Candidate Profile

  • 5+ years’ experience of legal finance.
  • Experience in general accounting procedures in compliance with the Solicitors Accounts Rules in legal practice. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, adept at interacting with third parties and colleagues at all levels.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • MS Office proficiency - advanced level for Excel.
  • Knowledge of 3E Elite (ERP), Xcelerate (Budgeting/Forecasting tool) and Chrome River (expense report system) would be an asset.
