Group Audit Lead

Join a leading statutory body overseeing policing in the Greater London area as a Group Audit Lead. This role is integral to their Audit, Risk, and Assurance team, providing essential assurance on governance, risk, and internal control frameworks. You will play a key role in maintaining and enhancing our internal audit services, influencing change at a senior level.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Assist the Head of Audit and Assurance in developing audit strategies and assurance activities to maintain a high-standard professional service.
  • Act as the client/functional lead, delivering an efficient and effective internal audit service.
  • Champion effective Risk Management, ensuring a proper risk-based approach to audit planning and delivery.
  • Manage the delivery of contracted out ICT specialist services, defining specifications and service level requirements to ensure standards are met.
  • Develop and deliver an audit plan and work programmes for a designated client or functional area, including:
    • Conducting annual risk analysis to identify assurance requirements.
    • Planning and allocating resources for audit assignments, setting comprehensive terms of reference for each review.
    • Leading and managing audit assignments, identifying key business risks, evaluating controls, and suggesting improvements.
    • Producing high-quality audit reports for senior management.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience in the public sector, particularly in conducting internal audits.
  • Familiarity with large public sector organisations and Quango.
  • Ideally with an understanding of policing and local government or authority organisations.
  • Strong grasp of political nuances.
  • Ability to lead and manage comprehensive audit processes and produce detailed reports.
