About the ClientMackie Myers is collaborating with a well-established and rapidly growing organisation expanding through acquisitions and organic development. The organisation has set up a shared service centre to support this growth to manage Record-to-Report (R2R), Order-to-Cash (O2C), and all general accounting functions. As part of this exciting transformation, they are looking to appoint a skilled Head of Accounting to join their London-based finance team.About the RoleAs the primary contact for finance operations within a designated region, the Head of Accounting leads a team of approximately 20 professionals, ensuring the accurate, timely, and well-controlled delivery of accounting services. This role focuses on enhancing team performance through coaching and development, streamlining systems and processes, and aligning services with internal policies and external requirements. As part of the Finance Shared Services Centre’s leadership team, this position plays a crucial role in fostering a collaborative, customer-focused, and process-led organisation supported by skilled and accountable colleagues.Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the accounting team, building a high-performing and engaged group of professionals dedicated to achieving outstanding results.
  • Strengthen team performance through targeted coaching, training, and development, demonstrating effective leadership behaviours that inspire motivation and excellence.
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations and governance standards, maintaining alignment with organisational policies.
  • Manage the monthly and periodic financial close processes, ensuring accuracy and driving improvements in internal controls.
  • Oversee the review of accounting transactions to ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance with control mechanisms.
  • Establish and maintain a robust internal control environment, consistently ensuring compliance and quality assurance.
  • Act as the primary contact for internal and external audits, overseeing the year-end close process and facilitating seamless collaboration.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, providing exceptional service and support.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for process and system improvements in partnership with technology and transformation teams.
Skills and Competencies
  • Experience of working in and managing within a finance shared service centre environment.
  • A fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA)
  • Proven expertise in leading teams within finance or shared services, with a track record of driving process improvement and fostering a culture of continuous enhancement.
  • Strong organisational skills and a process-driven mindset, ensuring efficiency and accuracy in all deliverables.
  • A solution-focused approach, with exceptional attention to detail and a methodical attitude towards problem-solving.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enabling effective collaboration with stakeholders at all levels.
  • A decisive leader with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple responsibilities in a dynamic environment while fostering a high-performing team.
