An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a prestigious government department that provides vital actuarial and financial advice to support effective decision-making across the UK and internationally.

About the Role:

As the Head of Finance, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the financial strategy and operations of a unique public sector organisation. Reporting directly to the Director of Finance, you will lead the Finance team through a critical transition to a new finance system, ensuring efficiency and innovation in financial processes. This role offers a unique chance to engage in a broad range of financial activities in a commercially-oriented government setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the transition to a new finance system, ensuring smooth implementation and alignment with best practices.
  • Oversee financial accounting, including the preparation of annual reports and accounts, and manage audit exercises.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for key external bodies, including HM Treasury and Cabinet Office, ensuring accurate and timely reporting.
  • Provide expert financial advice on complex accounting and budgeting issues.
  • Ensure robust financial stewardship, maintaining effective internal controls and safeguarding public funds.
  • Champion financial management best practices across the organisation, offering strategic insights and support to the Executive Committee and Board.
  • Provide inspirational leadership, developing a high-performing finance team and acting as deputy to the Director of Finance and Operations.
