Interim Finance Director | Mission Driven E-Commerce Start-Up | Remote

The Client

Harmonic are delighted to be working with a mission driven and rapidly growing E-Commerce start-up to recruit a highly experienced and commercially astute Interim Finance Director on an initial 4-Month contract as they search for their long-term permanent replacement. Our client has received significant funding last year, having previously been bootstrapped, to accelerate their growth and are expected to reach break even by the end of this calendar year, aiming to be profitable in 2026.

Our client has developed a unique business model in the retail and e-commerce space which has set them apart from their competitors and they are poised to become market leaders within the next 3 years. Their products are high quality yet remain low cost to the consumer, giving them almost unlimited growth potential.

The Role

This role will be standalone within their finance department, partnering with their entrepreneurial CEO and working closely with other department leaders within the business. The successful candidate will also need to work closely with their outsourced accountants, ensuring monthly management accounts are accurate and delivered in a timely manner. Outside of the day-to-day, they require someone very commercial astute who can identify key areas to reduce costs and ensure financial models are robust for various scenarios.

Duties

• Review the current financial model to ensure relevance and make any necessary adjustments.
• Partner with outsourced accounting firm to ensure monthly management are accurate.
• Act as a trusted advisor to the CEO.
• Establish and make continuous improvements to the finance function and processes.
• Support the Senior Leadership team and investors with strategic decisions using key financial insights.
• Have ownership of the FP&A function, setting up both long & short-term revenue forecasts.
• Develop and present KPI's to the executive team.
• Ad-hoc project work for the CEO.

Essential Experience

• ACA, ACCA, or CIMA Qualified
• Previous experience as a number 1 in finance at an SME, or number 2 in a larger organisation.
• Commercial acumen and a strong FP&A grounding.
• High level of communication skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions and partner with stakeholders.
• Background in improving internal processes and efficiencies.

Bonus Experience

• Experience in a n e-commerce, retail, or online marketplace start-up/scale-up
• Previously worked in a business with a large stock element to it.
• Previous experience in a business with high marketing costs.

Day Rate: £500-£650/day (Outside IR35)

Location: Remote

Start Date: ASAP (end of March at the latest)

Contract Length: 4 months (potential for extension)
