PMO Manager - Enterprise Portfolio Management Office

Household name FMCG brand is seeking to attract an accomplished, driven PMO Manager to join their Enterprise PMO team and lead an area/team.

As a core member of the Enterprise Portfolio Management Office, you will ensure that projects deliver in accordance with portfolio and project management standards from portfolio approval to start-up, implementation, handover and closure. You will:

  • Own and deliver PMO processes such as onboarding, resourcing, planning, reporting, budgeting, gate approvals, benefits realisation, training and closure.
  • Ensure that PMO services are delivered in a timely, purposeful, compliant way.
  • Take the lead on continuous improvement. Deliver training up to executive level.
  • Act as a 'good governance' ambassador with other project partners such as IT, Finance, HR, Change, Internal Controls and local PMO offices. Drive adoption of standards and raise awareness across project, change, value and brand networks.
  • Drive a culture of 'accountability' - a core Nomad value - to elevate the quality of project delivery, and change and risk management. Encourage project teams to self-serve and self-assure with user-friendly handbooks and tool-kits.
  • Deputise for the Group Head of PMO as and when required

Key aspects of the role:

  • Deliver PMO services including planning, resourcing, reporting and 'methods'.
  • Continuously improve PMO processes, tool-kits and user experiences.
  • Support annual portfolio preparation, planning and prioritisation activities.
  • Ensure projects align visions and outcomes.
  • Guide project teams through the multi-forum, stage gate approvals process.
  • Train on PMO standards and practices incl. project controls and risk frameworks.
  • Remove legacy PMO standards and practices from use across the business.
  • Evaluate reports, gather insight and proactively help projects stay on-track.
  • Develop and maintain trusted working relationships with project teams.
  • Help teams self-assess the effectiveness of controls (project, IT, Finance etc.).
  • Onboard new-to-role project holders incl. Sponsors, Leads, Project Managers.
  • Conduct health checks and reviews; agreeing action plans and escalations.
  • Drive and facilitate discussions on portfolio impacts e.g., from delivery delays.
  • Act as a point-person for project communities, triaging queries and needs.
  • Develop inter-project relationships to align comms, releases, dependencies etc.
  • Drive a delivery mindset of 'on time, to scope and quality with tangible benefits'.

Selection criteria

  • 5+ years Lead experience either in:
    • 'Dedicated' Portfolio role or,
    • 'Combined' Portfolio* and Project roles (*minimum of 2 years).
  • Held the Lead role in an Enterprise PMO (IT and business projects).
  • Built the service offering of a Portfolio Office from 'brilliant service basics' to a 'scale and efficiency' function.
  • Owned, delivered and improved PMO processes and tool-kits e.g., reporting, planning, approvals and resourcing
  • Line-managed at least 1 team member
