Sterling Williams are working with an international investment business on a newly created for a Risk Officer who will serve as a key member of the Compliance function, acting as a Risk Generalist with a primary focus on identifying, assessing, and managing investment risks as well as specified company-wide risks.

Ths role will support both Compliance and the Managing Director in embedding a proactive risk culture across the firm. The role is responsible for monitoring, reporting, and providing insight on risk exposures related to their investment activities and ensuring that the Company meets regulatory and operational standards.

Key Responsibilities of the role will span the following:

1. Investment Risk Management:

  • Enhance performance attribution and risk analysis by developing advanced portfolio analytics. Identify, measure, and monitor portfolio risks ensuring proper management of concentrations across various dimensions, including liquidity risk.
  • Coordinate the preparation of materials for the Investment Risk Committee (IRC) meetings.
  • Present market movements, fund positioning relative to House Policy, performance data and other potential risks identified, during the IRC meeting.
  • Conduct daily investment related compliance, including adherence to Tracking Error (TE) guidelines, credit rating requirements with the team.
  • Oversee and ensure compliance with best execution practices.
  • Share investment risk management analyses and findings with relevant departments, providing guidance and facilitating discussions.
  • Prepare and deliver timely reports on activities to the Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer (MD & CEO) as required.

2. Company-wide risk management

  • Prepare comprehensive risk assessment analysis reports.
  • Manage the Internal Capital Adequacy and Risk Assessment (ICARA) process.
  • Conduct operational resilience reviews to identify and mitigate risks.
  • Compile and submit risk related reports to the Head Office, whilst providing regular updates on activities to the MD & CEO, ensuring all reports are delivered in a timely manner

The successful candidate will have the following experience:

  • Good understanding of financial markets and risk management.
  • Good understanding of financial instruments, particularly in fixed income. Broad interest in financial markets and investments.
  • Awareness of regulatory landscape (AIFMD/UCITS).
  • Strong control awareness and appreciation of the laws and regulations.
  • Up to date knowledge of legal, compliance and market risk related issues.
  • Understanding of risk models and their shortcomings through standard third-party implementations.
  • Working knowledge of Investment System (Bloomberg, Dimension etc.)
  • Strong Excel skills, proficient in formulas for data manipulation. Able to use PivotTables and Pivot Charts to summarise and analyse large datasets.
  • Ability to respond flexibly to varying needs of the business, embracing changes.
  • Strong communication skills and stakeholder management.
  • Ability to articulate ideas, market views, and technical topics clearly, while working cooperatively and proactively with colleagues across other functions/businesses.
  • Ability to complete tasks with thoroughness and attention to all relevant aspects, no matter how small.

Qualifications:

  • Relevant degree in Mathematics/Finance/Economics
  • Professional Risk Management, Financial Risk Management or CFA qualifications are desirable
