Reed is acting on behalf of a prestigious school in Acton who are seeking a proactive and experienced School Business Manager to join their dynamic team. This role is central to the management of the school's finances and business affairs, and involves close collaboration with the Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team (SLT). The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the smooth operation and strategic management of the school's resources.
Day-to-day of the role:
Finance Resource Management
- Ensure accurate financial records are maintained and reported on a regular basis to the Headteacher, SLT and Governors including the Schools Financial Value Standard, the 3 year budget, termly vat returns and any other relevant financial self-evaluation documents
- Budget Setting and Monthly Monitoring
- Close year end and open for new year.
- Allocate and manage the school budget, overseeing the separate accounts held by budget holders and ensure that they remain within their allocation
- Manage the audit of the Private Accounts
- Reconcile Banks Statements
- Reconcile Purchasing Card Statement
- Be responsible for the development and operation of effective purchasing, tendering and procurement procedures, ensuring best value principles are met across the school
- Process invoices and BACS run
- Overview of fee collection, cash handling, banking and the cashless payment system and ensure that outstanding fees are managed according to policy
Facilities Management
- Oversee the work of the Site manager, ensuring the proper safety, maintenance and repair of the school is carried out with minimum disruption to the school
- Devise a development plan and maintenance schedule with the Site manager and Headteacher and Governors for premises upkeep and refurbishment
- Oversee asset management planning (including fabric and furnishings)
- Maximise income from lettings and agree, monitor and review the lettings arrangement with external letting agents and hirers
Human Resources (HR), including Employee Relations
- Oversee office and administrative functions
- Line manage administration staff, kitchen staff and cleaning staff
- Ensure payroll is completed accurately and make necessary changes in light of staff salaries
- Ensure all relevant HR policies ensuring regulatory compliance, including from the Diocese and Local Authority, are adopted and upheld including safeguarding, disciplinary, grievance, absence management policies

Required Skills & Qualifications:
Essential Requirements
Education and Experience
- To be educated to degree level (or equivalent)
- To have a certificate in School Business Management (CSBM) or a relevant professional qualification in financial management/HR
- Experience at Senior Level in Education or in Financial Management with a track record of delivering strategic goals
- To already have or be willing to study for a diploma in School Business Management (DSBM) Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- To be able to demonstrate excellent finance and accounting skills (to be tested at interview)
- To have a knowledge of SIMS FMS6 or similar packages (to be tested at interview)
- To be able to represent the school on or off site and have an understanding of the importance of the school within the community
- To be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of HR and Employment Law
