Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Team Leadership & Development:

    • Assist the Partner in overseeing the department's operations, ensuring smooth workflow and timely completion of tasks.
    • Supervise and mentor a team of tax professionals, providing guidance and training to ensure their continuous development.
    • Review and manage tax compliance work, ensuring submissions to HMRC are accurate and timely.
    • Plan and schedule tax work, effectively managing the team's workloads.
  • Client & Tax Planning Advisory:

    • Provide tailored advice on complex tax matters, including Capital Gains Tax, Trusts, and Inheritance Tax.
    • Work closely with partners to ensure clients receive high-quality, strategic tax advice that meets their needs.
    • Build and maintain strong client and intermediary relationships, managing deliverables, deadlines, and day-to-day client queries.
  • Business Development & Marketing:

    • Assist partners with business development initiatives, supporting the growth of the tax function within the firm.
    • Contribute to the marketing and promotion of tax services, identifying opportunities to enhance client relationships and expand the practice.
  • Compliance & Standards:

    • Ensure the department meets the requirements of ICAEW Practice Assurance Standards.
    • Work with the Training Partner to maintain up-to-date technical and soft skills training, including CPD requirements.
  • Operational Efficiency:

    • Work closely with partners to ensure appropriate fee recovery on tax assignments.
    • Assist in the recruitment and appraisal process for new and existing team members.

Profile

Technical Requirements:

  • Experience: Minimum 3-5 years' experience in a dedicated tax department, with a strong background in both compliance and advisory work.
  • Qualifications: Ideally CTA qualified, although those with significant experience in tax management without CTA qualifications will be considered.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficient in CorTAX, CCH Personal Tax, and Central.
    • Competent user of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Personal Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to manage client relationships and work effectively with colleagues.
  • Leadership Ability: Proven track record of supervising and developing teams, with a keen interest in mentoring and coaching junior staff.
