Financial Inclusion and Support Officer - Housing Sector

We are recruiting on behalf of our client for a Financial Inclusion and Support Officer to join their Housing Income Team. This role is essential in supporting tenants to sustain their tenancies, maximise their income, and navigate the complexities of the benefits system.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide specialist financial advice and support to tenants, helping them manage rent payments and household finances.
  • Challenge decisions related to Universal Credit and Housing Benefit to ensure tenants receive their correct entitlements.
  • Conduct home visits and face-to-face meetings with tenants, providing tailored financial support and guidance.
  • Represent the Income Service when engaging with external agencies, charities, and welfare organisations.
  • Offer budgeting advice and debt management support to help residents maintain long-term financial stability.
  • Ensure compliance with pre-action protocols, assisting with eviction prevention and tenancy sustainment.
  • Work collaboratively with internal teams and external stakeholders to improve outcomes for tenants.

Requirements:

  • Strong knowledge of welfare benefits (Universal Credit, Housing Benefit, Discretionary Housing Payments).
  • Experience in tenancy support, financial inclusion, or housing income services.
  • Understanding of legal frameworks, debt advice, and pre-action protocols in the housing sector.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills to liaise effectively with tenants and external organisations.
  • Ability to manage a caseload, prioritising support for vulnerable tenants.
  • Valid DBS check (essential).
  • Willingness to conduct home visits and work flexibly as required.
