· To support Newham College on a wide range of health and safety issues.· Carrying out health and safety audits and inspections across the College to ensure compliance with Newham College health and safety policy and procedures.· Assist Newham College staff to complete risk assessments.· Assist with the provision of health and safety training to Newham College staff.· Dealing with health and safety enquiries from internal and external sources.· As an employee within Newham College London all employees are required to promote, uphold and demonstrate through personal example, our values and behaviours.

Key duties and responsibilities of the post · Carry out routine inspections of the College and Services to ensure health and safety procedures are being adhered to.· Assist the Health and Safety Manager with the College health and safety audit programme.· Assist the Health and Safety Manager to prepare and deliver health and safety training and briefings for staff on key health and safety topics.· Assist in the preparation, maintenance and review of health and safety compliance and training records.· Undertake reviews of health and safety documentation completed by College and Services, such as risk assessments, COSHH assessments and external visits risk assessments.· Assist college departments in undertaking health and safety workplace assessments of employers providing placements for apprentices and work experience.· Monitor and respond to health and safety calls received via the Helpdesk.· Monitor and review monthly inspections completed by the College and external contractors.· Assist with the investigation of accidents and incidents and recommend appropriate follow up action.· Attend and support College Health & Safety Committee meetings. · Provide support and guidance to health and safety enquiries and complaints received from staff, students, helpdesk and contractors.· Assist with the preparation of periodic reports and updates for College Health & Safety Committee meetings.· Assist the Estates and Facilities Department in responding to fire alarms, the completion of regular fire drills and other emergencies. · Assist with the review of fire risk assessments of College premises.· Maintain an up to date knowledge of occupational health and safety matters, current legislation and best practice.· Prepare reports as and when required.· Work with the Health and Safety Manager on developing and implementing the Newham College health and safety strategy.· Deputise for the Health and Safety Manager as required.· Support College initiatives and aspirations to achieve Net Zero carbon.· Take responsibility for own professional development ensuring full compliance of all internal and external training requirements.· Understand and comply with Safeguarding legislation, ensuring that this commitment is demonstrated in all aspects of the role as appropriate
