KS2 Class Teacher in Barking and Dagenham

Reports To: Senior Leadership Team
Grades: MPS

KEY PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
To take responsibility for the education and welfare of a designated class of children in accordance with the current School Teachers' Pay and Conditions document, having due regard to the requirements of the National Curriculum and LA and school policies.

MAIN ACTIVITIES:

  1. Plan and implement appropriate work programmes for all children in the designated class, within the framework of national and school policies.
  2. Maintain assessment records and report on pupils' progress to senior staff, parents, and carers, in accordance with school policy.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  1. Plan work for the class in accordance with national, LA, and school curriculum policies, ensuring a broad, balanced, relevant, and stimulating curriculum.
  2. Ensure a close match between the learning experience offered and the individual needs of the children to maximize their capabilities.
  3. Make appropriate educational provision for children with SEN and those learning EAL, with support from the SENDCO and EMA leads.
  4. Provide children with opportunities to manage their own learning and become independent learners.
  5. Create a secure, happy, and stimulating classroom environment, maintaining high standards of organisation and discipline.
  6. Foster each child's self-image and esteem and establish relationships based on mutual respect.
  7. Maintain a high standard of display in the classroom and other school areas.
  8. Arrange for resources, equipment, and materials to be available and encourage children to be responsible for their learning.
  9. Work closely with colleagues to undertake planning and implement agreed schemes of work.
  10. Assess children's progress, maintain records, and provide written reports to parents and carers.
  11. Communicate and consult with parents, carers, and outside agencies about children's progress and attainment.
  12. Ensure the school's aims and objectives in relation to the curriculum, equal opportunities, and discipline are promoted daily.
  13. Liaise with support staff, the LA, and external bodies as required.
  14. Manage other adults in the classroom.
  15. Access professional development through self-directed reading, courses, and in-service training.
  16. Undertake any other relevant duties as the school's needs change.
  17. Take responsibility for a specified project linked to school improvement, as agreed with the headteacher.
