Job Title: 1:1 Behaviour Support in SEMH School

Contract Type: Fixed-Term Contract Monday to Friday

Location: London Borough of Greenwich

Daily Rate: £90 - £110 a day (depending on experience)

1:1 Behaviour Support is required for a successful SEMH School located in the London Borough of Greenwich. This Monday to Friday 8:30am-4pm ongoing long term contract to start immediately to support a secondary aged student.

This PRU caters to students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and challenging behaviour. To work collaboratively with the wider school team and external agencies to support students in achieving their full potential. Class sizes are small, typically up to 5 students per classroom.

The Student

  • YP has suffered extensive trauma (was exposed to domestic violence).
  • ADHD diagnosis and is on waiting list for medication (struggles to stay in class beyond 30 mins).
  • Is still struggling to regulate his emotions a lot of times.
  • Is still occasionally presenting verbal and aggressive behaviour towards others.
  • Is struggling to form and maintain relationships and his social skills are poor.
  • Struggles with processing information.
  • Significant learning needs with literacy and maths (screened as having dyslexia).
  • His lessons take place within a small classroom 2-3 students present (his education has been mostly one to one).
  • Uses slang
  • Cannot cope with listening to any teacher explanation.
  • Has been involved in physical altercations within the home.
  • Can be resistant to attending education.
  • When YP is not in one-to-one education, he struggles to focus and deal with the lack of constant attention, constantly he will resort to disruptive behaviour such as shouting and banging the table.
  • Likes to sit in the corner of the classroom barricading himself into it with the desks, creating his own space.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a PRU or similar educational setting.
  • Strong understanding of SEMH, ASD, and challenging behaviour.
  • Experience providing 1:1 support to students.
  • Knowledge of behaviour management strategies and techniques.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of CAMHS and other external support agencies.
  • Relevant qualifications in education, social work, or a related field (desirable).
  • Patience, resilience, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
  • Must have an Enhanced DBS or at least able to pay for a new one immediately.
  • You must live in easy commutable distance to the London Borough of Greenwich
