Are you a highly organised multi-tasker with a background providing an exceptional executive support function?

An internationally impactful charity is recruiting for a Chief of Staff. This is a brand-new position for a confident, attentive, and highly motivated professional to provide diligent and effective support to the CEO, and actively enhance the impact and effectiveness of a range of global high-profile advocacy campaigns and initiatives that will positively contribute to the health and future of our shared planet.

This is a rare opportunity for an organised, strategic, and ambitious individual to engage and influence senior stakeholders, major donors, parliamentarians, and government officials, and further EJF’s agenda of addressing the challenges to our shared planet, biodiversity, and connected human rights.

The Role

With a significant emphasis on operational oversight, you will thrive working both strategically and at a senior level. The role of Chief of Staff to the CEO extends beyond being a sounding board and 'right hand’, you will oversee and report on key, and at times highly confidential projects while also as representing the CEO at crucial meetings, often in an international setting.

As the CEO is heavily involved in the development and delivery of advocacy strategies, you will proactively provide direct support on core environmental justice issues; monitoring relevant policy developments, providing analysis to inform advocacy efforts, and maintaining, engaging, enhancing and influencing relationships with journalists, policymakers, government representatives, and high-net-worth individuals. With the charity’s remit of work spanning the globe, you will also review how individual country programmes are performing, while making objective assessments on whether local operations and staff are working well and delivering as expected.

Acting as an effective gatekeeper, it is paramount that you actively reduce the CEO’s competing demands and workload, achieved via scheduling, prioritising tasks, and ensuring deadlines are met and actively taking on tasks that are delegated to you. Harnessing your eagle eye for detail, you will also promptly draft and edit high-quality content for public and internal communications, including press releases, speeches, articles, and social media posts. Your gatekeeper role will involve a thorough review of documents produced by colleagues, ensuring you apply your knowledge of the issues and strategies to published materials, ensuring alignment across the comms and campaign teams and aiming for excellence across the organisation’s public outputs.
