Location: HMP Belmarsh, South East London (near Plumstead and Woolwich Arsenal stations)

Salary: Up to £180,000 per annum (depending on experience)

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent (will consider locum work)

About Us: HMP Belmarsh is a Category A prison housing around 675 patients with diverse needs, including complex and acute mental health issues. Our integrated mental health and forensic psychology team is dedicated to providing exceptional care and support to high-profile patients across both outpatient and inpatient services.

Job Description: We are seeking a dynamic and adaptable Consultant Psychiatrist to join our healthcare team. In this role, you will work collaboratively with our multidisciplinary team to support high-profile patients, providing excellent clinical care and contributing to the development of our mental health services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide clinical care, assessment, and treatment to patients on-site.
  • Participate in the strategic direction of the mental health service.
  • Lead senior mental health clinicians on service developments and provide clinical supervision.
  • Review referrals, determine appropriate treatment plans, conduct risk assessments, and engage in complex case reviews with the multidisciplinary team.

Requirements:

  • Legal right to work in the UK.
  • Previous forensic experience is preferred.
  • Ability to build rapport with both officers and patients.
  • Keen interest in developing mental health services within a prison setting.

Working Hours:

  • Monday to Friday, 8am-4pm or 9am-5pm.
