Directors UK is the professional association of UK screen directors. It is a membership organisation representing the creative, economic and contractual interests of over 8,000 members ā€“ the majority of working TV and film directors in the UK. Directors UK negotiates rights deals and collects and distributes royalties to its members, ensuring they receive fair payment for their work. It also campaigns and lobbies on its membersā€™ behalf and provides a range of services including legal advice, events and career development. Directors UK works closely with fellow organisations around the world to represent directorsā€™ rights and concerns, promotes excellence in the craft of direction and champions change to the current landscape to create an equal opportunity industry for all.

Job role and duties

Reporting to: Chief Executive

Direct Reports: Responsibility for 3 direct reports

As Director of Membership Strategy and Support, you will be responsible for the overall relationship between Directors UK and its members. You will develop and implement a strategy which ensures that Directors UK remains the ā€œgo toā€ representative body for all directors working in the UK screen industries.

Key Responsibilities include the following:

  • Acting as the day-to-day ā€œfaceā€ of Directors UK to its membership, building the strongest possible relationships with members, potential members and their representatives.
  • Leading and regularly reviewing the Membership strategy to enhance the overall support and services given to a diverse membership.
  • Developing a strategic, data-led approach to the acquisition, retention and engagement of members.
  • Developing strong working relationships with the Directors UK Board, being their first point of contact with membership questions, attending Board meetings and presenting where required.
  • Delivering excellent member support and experience with a focus on effective, data-led segmentation and first-class targeted support offerings, implementing new digital tools and capabilities where necessary
  • Leading, developing, engaging and motivating the Membership team to deliver business and personal objectives in line with the Membership strategy and Directors UKā€™s values. Also playing an important role in the wider leadership of Directors UK as a whole ensuring collaboration with the wider Directors UK team
  • In collaboration with the Communications team, ensuring that we communicate with our members in the most effective ways, being an active participant in any communications, PR and marketing initiatives in relation to membership activities.
  • In collaboration with the Distribution team, ensuring all member onboarding and offboarding processes, including registration, query handling and estate management are complete, accurate and meet industry standards.
  • Managing the department budget and driving improvements in member support in a cost effective and efficient way in line with any financial targets.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Service driven, with a strong focus on customer service and relationship building.
  • Excellent interpersonal, resilience, communication and intellectual skills to build relationships and influence a wide range of diverse internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate, partner, build consensus and drive results with key stakeholders, managing the range of different perspectives and priorities being represented by stakeholders, up to and including Board level.
  • The skills to lead an effective, high performing team, engaging, motivating and developing all team members.
  • The ability to translate strategic intent into practical outputs with strong attention to detail.
  • Experience of driving transformational change and delivering solutions to improve member/customer experience on a cost-effective basis.

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Experience of working in TV/film production at a senior level.

Key Terms of Employment

Reporting to: Chief Executive

Salary: up to Ā£85,000 per annum

Hours: 9.30am - 5.30pm

Workdays: Monday to Friday

Location: We expect our people to work in the Directors UK office at 22 Stukeley Street, London at least 50% of their working time, with the remainder to be worked either in the office or remotely. The post holder will be required to travel within the UK as required. In addition, due to the nature of the role, there will be a requirement to represent Directors UK at evening events and weekends as required.

Contract: Full Time permanent

Holidays:Ā 25 days per year plus all public and bank holidays
