The Communities and Children's Services Department plays a crucial role in delivering high-quality services and maintaining safe environments across the organisation. They are now looking to recruit a Head of Health and Safety on a 6-month fixed-term contract.Your new roleThey are seeking an experienced and dedicated Head of Health and Safety to lead their health and safety initiatives. This pivotal role involves providing strategic direction, expert advice, and leadership on all health and safety matters. You will be responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive health and safety strategies, ensuring compliance with legislation, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

  • Develop and oversee the health and safety strategy for the organisation, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives and legal requirements.
  • Provide expert leadership and direction on health and safety matters to senior management and other stakeholders.
  • Promote proactive risk management and collaboration on health and safety issues across the organisation.
  • Monitor and report on health and safety performance, including key performance indicators (KPIs) and objectives.
  • Lead and manage the Health and Safety Team, ensuring effective performance and professional development.
  • Oversee incident reporting and ensure compliance with health and safety processes and procedures.
  • Champion a culture of health and safety excellence, driving continuous improvement and behavioural change.
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies and industry networks.What you'll need to succeed

As the successful candidate, you will need to have:

  • Proven experience in a senior health and safety role, preferably within a public sector or local government environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of health and safety legislation and best practices.
  • Strong leadership and strategic planning skills, with the ability to influence and inspire others.
  • Excellent communication and partnership-building abilities.
  • A proactive and innovative approach to problem-solving and risk management.
  • Relevant professional qualifications in health and safety (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH).
