Black Unity Bike Ride (BUBR) began in the summer of 2020 and became a registered charity on 29th April 2024.

Our vision is to be a global movement united by cycling, empowering individuals and communities through love, shared experiences, and positive impact.

Our mission is to create a thriving, inclusive cycling community that inspires, supports, and challenges its members to live active lives while fostering environmental sustainability and social change.

Our work to date has increased ethnic diversity within the sport of cycling and inspired many within the Black community to live active lives and prioritise their well-being.

BUBR produces the largest annual Black community bike ride in Europe, cycling training sessions at the Olympic Velodrome in east London and annual international cycling tours.

BUBR has three core values that it operates by: Unity, Empowerment and Love.

ROLE OUTLINE

Accountability The role is accountable to and line managed by the BUBR Founder.

Duties The job description gives an outline of key duties and is not intended to be an exhaustive list. The post holder may be asked from time to time to take on other responsibilities as reasonably requested by their line manager.

  • Develop and implement operational strategies to enhance efficiency and effectiveness across all projects.
  • Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources while ensuring adherence to organisational goals.
  • Build and maintain relationships with community partners, sponsors, and stakeholders to enhance the visibility and impact of our initiatives.
  • Monitor and evaluate project outcomes, providing regular reports and insights to the leadership team.
  • Drive operational best practices, identifying opportunities for improvement and innovation across all functions.
  • Cultivate a motivated and high-performing team, providing guidance, support, and professional development opportunities.
  • Manage the BUBR content management system
  • Identify funding opportunities that support the long-term sustainability of BUBR.
  • Create and maintain a staff/volunteer operations handbook that encapsulates the BUBR culture and way of working.

Person Specification We are looking for someone who is highly organised, with a solution focused mentality and can multitask. This role requires a candidate with a professional and positive attitude.

  • Proven experience in operations management, project management, or a similar role, preferably in a third-sector or community-focused organisation.
  • Exceptional organisational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build collaborative relationships.
  • An energised individual with sincere belief in and passion for the BUBR vision.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with a passion for advocating for community and social impact.
  • Proficiency in project management software and tools.
  • Ability to work flexible hours within a start-up context including (but rarely) evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to be solutions focused, identify risks and resolve at the earliest opportunity
  • Ability to motivate, empower and successfully engage volunteers.
  • Ability to confidently manage own work performance autonomously. Ability to work under pressure in lead up to events.
