Heritage Consultant Job in Chiswick, London

An esteemed heritage and conservation practice with a rich history has an opening for a Heritage Consultant job in their Chiswick office in London. The team engages in a diverse array of projects, reflecting their long-standing reputation in the field.

With origins dating back to the 1940s, this practice boasts an extensive portfolio that includes residential properties, marketplaces, public monuments, and places of worship. Their successful expansion has led to the establishment of three offices and a strong team of specialists. They are now seeking to further strengthen their London team by hiring a Heritage Consultant.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively within a team of Conservation Architects, Heritage Planners, Surveyors, and Historic Building Consultants
  • Evaluate the impact of proposed developments on historic fabric and settings, providing mitigation strategies where necessary
  • Advise on design and construction practices in historic settings, ensuring compliance with current legislation and conservation standards
  • Communicate effectively with clients, authorities, and project teams, presenting complex heritage issues clearly and concisely
  • Prepare high-quality reports, including heritage assessments, impact statements, and documentation required for planning submissions.

Required Skills & Experience

  • A good first degree in archaeology, architecture, conservation of the historic environment, or architectural history
  • Strong knowledge of the planning process (including EIA) and familiarity with relevant environmental/heritage legislation and guidance
  • Robust knowledge of UK architectural history
  • Excellent communication skills
  • At least 5 years of relevant work experience
  • Full or Associate Member of the IHBC or CIFA would be desirable
  • Experience in delivering environmental impact assessments and supporting programmes for complex large infrastructure and/or major development schemes
  • Experience in a commercial consultancy environment and willingness to work nationally.
