My client has established a strong presence in the UK Transmission & Distribution sector over the past decade, successfully securing numerous high-profile projects. As demand for exceptional engineering design services continues to grow, they are seeking a CAD Technician to join their London team.

This role reports to the Office Lead - Power and involves delivering high-quality draughting services using tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, and other design software.

Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will ideally have proven experience in the Transmission & Distribution sector, including technical knowledge of High Voltage (HV) Underground Cables, Overhead Lines (OHL), and Substations. They will possess strong communication skills and demonstrate enthusiasm, proactivity, and the ability to work effectively within a diverse team.

Key Objectives

  • Deliver outstanding CAD services to clients.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary CAD team to support project delivery.
  • Share knowledge and expertise with colleagues to inspire continuous improvement.
  • Uphold the principles of 'Perfect Delivery' throughout the design process.

Responsibilities

  • Create schematics, models, general arrangement, and detailed drawings for Transmission & Distribution projects.
  • Update and modify drawings to meet client standards and procedures.
  • Produce drawings accurately from survey or redline information.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to provide comprehensive design solutions.
  • Check and verify the accuracy of deliverables, ensuring compliance with CAD standards.
  • Support junior technicians in their professional growth.
  • Manage time effectively to meet project deadlines and budget constraints.
  • Maintain robust document control and drawing records.
  • Promote a 'right-first-time' and 'zero-defects' culture within the team.

Person Specification

Qualifications:

  • Minimum qualification: HNC/HND.
  • Ideally working towards or holding EngTech MIET or MICE status.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD (2D and 3D).
  • Experience with Autodesk Revit, Civils 3D, or Bentley Microstation (preferred but not essential).
  • Familiarity with technical standards and data management regulations.

Experience:

  • Knowledge of HV Underground Cables, Substations, and OHL draughting is preferred.
  • Previous CAD experience in high voltage transmission, utilities, or infrastructure projects.

Attributes:

  • Strong organisational and planning skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage time and costs effectively, meeting and exceeding client expectations.
