At Sapphire Independent Housing we are on an exciting journey. We have grown the business, expanded and diversified so that we can deliver much needed accommodation and services in London and Hertsmere.
 
Now we’re seeking an Income Officer to provide a rent and debt collection service that is focused on engaging with and supporting residents. Working proactively and creatively, it will be part of your role to set rent levels for both resident and property, to set service charge levels, to carry out rent/receipt accounting, and to minimise the levels of debt. 

Managing a caseload of accounts, you’ll work with residents to maximise their income, manage their budgets effectively and sustain their tenancies – as well as, if necessary, initiating legal proceedings. To provide the best practical support, you’ll need to liaise effectively with the Housing Benefit Department and Department for Work and Pensions and to make good use of all information that is available.

We’re looking for:

  • Experience of providing customer focused service.
  • Experience of working as part of a team and within set procedural guidelines. 
  • Good knowledge of procedures relating to the recovery of outstanding debt.
  • Good knowledge of welfare benefits, especially housing benefit.
  • Good written, verbal and numerical skills.
  • Understanding of diverse customer needs, with the ability to interview customers in a sympathetic, understanding but professional manner.
  • Ability to use a range of IT systems, including specialist packages.
  • Ability to plan, organise and prioritise your work to meet deadlines.
  • Willingness to take responsibility and resolve problems, working flexibly and cooperatively.
