IT Development Manager

We are working in partnership with one of our biggest customers who are a leading force in the financial services sector.  The position is a hybrid role requiring 2 days a week in the office with other occasional travel.

IT Development Manager

We are looking for a competent IT Development Manager to lead and manage the IT Development skills, processes, costs, platform upkeep for the assigned applications and technologies including all associated application development and support tasks undertaken by 3rd parties.

The Development Manager will have the following primary technology stack under their remit:

  • Java – Front end and Back end, Java Script Frameworks such as Angular and React,
  • Oracle, .Net related technologies include Azure Functions Development.

It is not expected that the Development Manager will have hands-on skills on all of the technology stack but they will ideally have spent at least 2 years being a hands-on developer (Java).  This will allow them to have the  technical affinity to understand technology issues faced by the developers and provide ideas to overcome the challenges.

The IT Development Manager will report into the Vertical Lead. 

The role holder responsibility includes management of 3rd party suppliers and therefore any prior experience of working in a multi supplier environment will be helpful.

Key stakeholder liaisons include Portfolio Managers, Architects,  Technical Delivery Managers, Scrum Masters and create/maintain strategic 3rd party relationships.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Maintain an overall roadmap for all the applications and services under management
  • Ensure that appropriately skilled resources are available to fulfil the development roadmap
  • Work closely with the Business Change and Product teams to ensure resource / skills availability on a timely fashion
  • Responsible for application health, availability, performance, application versions, remediating / tracking vulnerabilities, cost and licences
  • Forward planning including skills and resource requirements for undertaking development and maintaining the application stack
  • Capacity planning for applications and platforms in close collaboration with IT Service Management and the respective business areas
  • Responsible for the quality of software development undertaken for the assigned technology stack ensuring all work adheres to agreed standards for architecture, design, development and quality
  • Facilitates the preparation and management of third party supplier contracts in conjunction with Procurement, acting as the Technical owner of the contracts
  • Has the technical affinity to lead a team of Developers from various 3rd parties and act as the Senior Technical point of contact for the assigned technology stack for problem solving
  • Ensure clear understanding of demand and manage the supply of resources through internal and/or the 3rd parties supply chain
