Job Purpose

To develop, manage and support the Institutes individual and company members and to support membership committees. Ensure all membership enquiries are promptly and satisfactorily answered. Maintain the membership database.

You will play a key part in implementing the Institutes membership growth and retentionstrategy, including the development of relevant and compelling membership offers for each career stage, overseeing the planning, execution, and effectiveness of all membership communications, and working across teams and departments to maximise member engagement opportunities.?

Key Responsibilities

Individual Membership

  • To work with the Director and Membership team to develop and implement the membership strategy.
  • To develop a compelling offer by career stage tomaintain and improve member retention and engagement levels, and to maximise new member acquisition.
  • To work with the Education team to ensure that the journey from student to member is compelling and framed coherently for the student and implemented effectively.
  • Ensure that membership enquiries are resolved in a positive, timely and professional manner.
  • Maintain up to date membership records in the database.
  • Establish and maintain Special Interest Groups (SIG)
  • Identify opportunities to enhance membership value and increase our service offering.
  • Assist with the annual membership renewal process, including monitoring payments and issuing annual membership cards.
  • Assist processing new membership applications and applications for fellowship.
  • Support the branch network and local branch committees.

Company Membership

  • Promote and develop Company Membership and maintain existing members.
  • Provide support to Company Members in relation to industry issues.
  • Improve company membership engagement.
  • Establish and maintain Special Interest Groups (SIG).
  • Improve membership retention through improved communication and support.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance membership value and increase our service offering.
  • When required, participateand represent the Institute on other industry bodies and represent the Institute with external agencies government and other industry organisations.
  • Research and prepare briefs on Industry issues to provide to members.
  • Assist with the administration of the Trinity House Light Dues Contract.
  • Take ownership of the administration of HMRC EUR1 / A.TRstamps.
  • Responsible for correct and accurate company membership renewal process and annual invoicing
  • To gain and maintain a thorough understanding of the membership base and the issues affecting them.

Support company membership council

  • Attend Federation Council meetings anddraft the meeting agenda and minutes, collate reports/papers and their distribution to Council members.
  • Deliver actions and projects relating to matters raised by Federation Council
  • Attend any external meetings with other associated bodies, Government agenciesas required on behalf of Federation Council
  • Support Federation Council to provide value to company members.

We are a small team so the successful applicant must be prepared to assist all departments as required.

  • Ability to collate and analyse membership data and use this in the development of support and services.
  • Experience of segmentation and targeting within a customer base?
  • Enjoy working as part of a small team
  • Shipping industry experience preferred
