We are seeking a dedicated and reliable School Caretaker to join our team at a welcoming and vibrant primary school in Northwest London. This is a crucial role in ensuring the school premises are well-maintained, secure, and safe for students, staff, and visitors.
Key ResponsibilitiesSite Maintenance & Repairs-
Carry out general maintenance, minor repairs, and basic DIY tasks (e.g., plumbing, carpentry, painting, and electrical work).

Ensure all school facilities are kept in good working order and escalate major repair issues when necessary.

Conduct daily inspections of the school premises to identify and address any maintenance issues.

Act as a key holder, responsible for opening and closing the school buildings each day.

Ensure the school is secure at all times, including managing alarm systems and CCTV monitoring where applicable.

Carry out regular health and safety checks, ensuring compliance with school policies and risk assessments.

Supervise and support cleaning staff, ensuring all areas of the school are kept clean and tidy.

Carry out ad hoc cleaning tasks as required, including emergency spillages.

Oversee waste disposal and recycling processes to maintain a hygienic environment.

Maintain outdoor areas, ensuring playgrounds, pathways, and entrances are clear, safe, and free from hazards.

Assist in setting up classrooms, assemblies, and school events, including arranging furniture and equipment.

Oversee contractors and maintenance teams working on-site, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.

Support the school with moving and delivering supplies, equipment, and furniture when needed.

Ensure heating, lighting, and ventilation systems are operating efficiently.

Assist with fire drills, emergency evacuations, and first aid provisions where necessary.

Previous experience as a school caretaker, facilities manager, or maintenance operative.

Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrics, carpentry, and general repairs.

Strong awareness of health and safety regulations, including COSHH and fire safety procedures.

Ability to work independently and use initiative to resolve issues efficiently.

Good communication and teamwork skills.

Experience working in a school environment.

Knowledge of safeguarding procedures in schools.

First Aid or Health & Safety training (or willingness to obtain).
