SEMH Humanities Teacher / Religious Studies(MPS or UPS) is required for in Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) located in the London Borough of Greenwich to start a contract role with the view to go permanent in January 2025.

The successful Humanities Teacher will have a teaching qualification (ie PGCE /Teach First / GTP / SCITT / QTS) and extensive experience teaching the UK curriculum at KS3 & KS4)This Humanities Teacher role involves delivering high-quality Humanities education, including Citizenship and Religious Education (RE), to students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The ideal Humanities Teacher will be committed to providing an inclusive and supportive learning environment that encourages student engagement and achievement.

Class sizes are small, typically up to 6-7 pupils in class, each of which will have several 1:1 Behaviour Teaching Assistants supporting.  You will be able to teach fun and engaging lessons at KS3 to GCSE levels.

  • You have Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification
  • Proven experience teaching Humanities subjects, including Citizenship and RE, preferably within a PRU or similar setting.
  • Experience working with students with SEMH needs and a deep understanding of the challenges they face.
  • Will live in easy commutable distance to the London Borough of Greenwich.
  • Strong classroom management skills and the ability to create a positive learning environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with students, colleagues, and parents/carers.
  • A commitment to continuous professional development and a willingness to learn and adapt to new approaches.
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging and effective Humanities lessons that cater to the diverse needs of students with SEMH.
  • Develop and implement individualized learning plans tailored to each student's needs and abilities.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that supports the social and emotional development of students.
  • Utilize a variety of teaching strategies and resources to engage students and promote a love of learning.
  • Monitor and assess student progress, providing regular feedback and support to help them achieve their full potential.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, support staff, and external agencies to provide a holistic approach to student development.
  • Manage classroom behaviour effectively, using positive behaviour management strategies to create a safe and orderly learning environment.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, progress, and achievements.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in SEMH education.
  • Contribute to the wider school community through participation in extracurricular activities and events.
