Senior ASC & SEN Lawyer

A dynamic London borough, where diversity and innovation come together to create a thriving community is looking for an experienced Senior Adults and SEN Lawyer to join our dedicated legal team.

The successful candidate will be a key player, providing expert advice and representation on complex cases related to Adult Social Care (ASC) and Special Educational Needs (SEN). You will work closely with senior officers, elected members, and external stakeholders, helping to shape policies and legal strategies that directly impact our community.

About the role

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing expert legal advice on ASC matters, including Deprivation of Liberty cases, Court of Protection proceedings, judicial reviews, the Care Act, Mental Health Act, and Mental Capacity Act.
  • Advising on SEN matters, ensuring compliance with local government education law.
  • Representing the council in legal proceedings, including advocacy in tribunals and courts.
  • Managing and supervising a team of lawyers and support staff, ensuring high standards of practice and case management.

About You

To thrive in this role, you will need:

  • A qualification to practice as a Solicitor, Barrister, or Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives in England and Wales.
  • Extensive experience in handling high-profile and complex ASC and SEN cases.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with experience advising senior stakeholders in a local government setting.
  • Excellent leadership skills with experience in mentoring and supervising legal professionals.
