The Role

This is a dynamic opportunity that will place the candidate in a leading position within the Lloyd's Market. The role involves close collaboration with underwriting and claims colleagues, and the teams is fully involved with live business. No two days are the same, and our workload is varied and rewarding.

We are willing to consider candidates with specialism in any of the classes of business in which we operate.

What you'll be doing in the role

  • Leading wordings and coverage discussions on existing and new products, developed by the organisation and in tandem with business partners.
  • Extensive liaison with underwriters on a day-to-day basis to provide guidance on technical issues and assistance with legal risk management.
  • Attending broker and client meetings with underwriters to provide guidance and expertise on specific coverage elements of our products.
  • Researching and reporting on potential coverage issues and approaches to emerging risk.
  • Providing technical guidance notes and in-person training for colleagues across the business.
  • Representing the organisation in external knowledge-sharing forums and developing your profile across the Lloyd's market.

We are looking for someone with

  • A proven track record as a senior wordings specialist with contract drafting experience and attention to detail.
  • A "commercial" view of insurance products and their value to customers.
  • Confidence to make decisions on coverage and the ability to advocate the reasoning and logic involved and to evaluate the materiality of technical points.
  • Advanced MS Word and document formatting skills.
  • An ability to lead and facilitate complex discussions while interacting effectively with all types of people, including more and less technically-focused colleagues, brokers, and customers.
  • An inquisitive mind who is a proven problem-solver, capable of adapting and working on wordings in a range of jurisdictions and lines of business.
  • The ability to work well both individually and in teams.

Our must haves

  • A minimum of five years' wordings or technical underwriting experience gained in the Lloyd's Market. Relevant experience in a commercial legal environment (including in-house) may also be considered.
  • Excellent contract drafting skills, including sound knowledge of English grammar and sentence construction.

Nice to have

  • Law degree or legal experience which involves an element of reviewing and preparing legal contracts.
