Key Responsibilities

As a Special Needs Teacher, you will:

• Plan and Deliver Tailored Lessons: Design individualised lesson plans and adapt the curriculum to meet the unique needs of each student.
• Support Holistic Development: Foster academic, social, and emotional growth, ensuring that every child feels valued and included.
• Implement and Monitor Individual Education Plans (IEPs): Work collaboratively with support staff, parents, and external specialists to develop and review IEPs.
• Create a Positive Learning Environment: Build a safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom culture where all students can thrive.
• Assess and Track Progress: Regularly evaluate and document student achievements, providing clear feedback to parents and stakeholders.
• Employ Specialist Strategies: Use a range of teaching techniques and resources tailored to different learning needs and disabilities.
• Promote Inclusion: Advocate for a culture of understanding and acceptance within the wider school community.

Qualifications and Skills Required

To excel in this role, you will need:

• A Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent teaching qualification.
• A relevant SEN qualification or substantial experience working with children with special needs.
• Strong understanding of learning disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, ADHD, and other developmental challenges.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
• Patience, empathy, and resilience to navigate the challenges and celebrate the successes of teaching SEN students.
• Familiarity with assistive technologies and alternative communication methods (e.g., Makaton, PECs) is a plus.
• A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
