About the Role:

We are seeking a Tax Manager who is preferably CTA qualified to join our tax team. You will work with a diverse portfolio of clients, providing high-quality tax advice, ensuring compliance, and managing a range of tax-related projects. You will be a key player in the team, overseeing the preparation of personal self-assessment returns and reporting, advising clients on tax strategies, and supporting the leadership team in managing client relationships.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Tax Compliance:
    • Manage a client portfolio for self-assessment
    • Oversee the timely and accurate submission of ATED and P11D returns
    • Assist audit and accounts staff on preparation of complex Corporation Tax returns
    • Assist bookkeeping team with complex VAT queries
  • Tax Advisory:
    • Provide high-level tax advice to a range of clients, including corporate, SME, and individual clients.
    • Advise on corporate restructuring, tax-efficient structuring, and inheritance tax planning.
    • Develop tax-efficient strategies for clients, ensuring their tax affairs are managed proactively and with foresight.
  • Client Relationship Management:
    • Build and maintain strong, trusted relationships with clients, becoming their first point of contact for tax-related queries and concerns.
    • Manage the day-to-day relationship with clients, identifying opportunities for additional services and offering advice to support their business objectives.
    • Attend client meetings to discuss tax planning, compliance, and strategy.
  • Team Management:
    • Supervise and mentor junior tax staff and trainees, providing guidance on technical matters, managing workloads, and supporting their development.
    • Review the work of junior staff, providing constructive feedback and ensuring high standards of quality and accuracy.
  • Technical Leadership:
    • Stay up-to-date with developments in tax legislation and ensure the firm’s clients benefit from the latest tax planning opportunities.
    • Develop and deliver internal training to colleagues on key tax issues, ensuring the wider team’s knowledge remains current.

Requirements:

  • Qualifications:
    • CTA (Chartered Tax Adviser) qualification is preferable.
  • Experience:
    • At least 5 years of experience working in a tax practice or accounting firm, with a solid background in both compliance and advisory work.
    • Experience in managing a portfolio of clients and providing high-quality tax advisory services.
    • Experience in managing junior team members and training staff.
    • Experience in Corporation Tax and VAT preferable
  • Technical Skills:
    • Excellent technical knowledge of UK tax law
    • Experience with tax compliance software and general accounting systems.
    • Strong understanding of tax planning, corporate finance, and business strategy.
  • Personal Attributes:
    • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain complex tax matters in an accessible way.
    • Proactive, solution-oriented approach with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
    • Strong client-facing skills with a focus on building long-term relationships.
    • Ability to lead and mentor a team, fostering a collaborative and productive environment.
