Job Overview:

We are looking for a proactive and organized Science Technician to join our team and provide essential support to our science teachers and students. The successful candidate will play a key role in preparing and maintaining equipment, setting up experiments, and ensuring that our science labs are fully stocked and safe for use. This role is ideal for someone with a passion for science and the practical aspects of learning.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare, set up, and clear away equipment and materials for science lessons and experiments.
  • Ensure the science labs are well-stocked, well-organized, and in good working condition.
  • Assist with the maintenance, cleaning, and testing of scientific equipment.
  • Ensure all health and safety guidelines are followed in the preparation and use of materials and equipment.
  • Manage and maintain the inventory of science materials and chemicals, ordering replacements as needed.
  • Assist teachers in the preparation of lesson plans and deliver practical support during lessons.
  • Keep accurate records of equipment and materials, and liaise with teachers and staff to ensure requirements are met.
  • Support the safe disposal of hazardous materials in line with regulations and school policies.
  • Assist with other administrative tasks related to the science department as required.
Person Specification:
  • Previous experience working as a Science Technician or in a similar technical support role is desirable, but not essential.
  • A strong understanding of science laboratory procedures and health & safety regulations.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to build effective working relationships with staff and students.
  • A keen interest in science and education, with a practical approach to supporting teaching and learning.
  • A relevant qualification in science (e.g., GCSEs in Science or equivalent) is preferred.
  • Basic IT skills for record-keeping and communication.
