The Role:

As Deputy Headteacher, you will support the Headteacher in the strategic leadership and day-to-day management of the school. You will lead on key areas such as curriculum development, teaching and learning, staff development, and pupil progress. Key Responsibilities:
  • Support the Headteacher in providing strong, visionary leadership and strategic direction.

  • Drive high standards of teaching, learning, and pupil achievement across the school.

  • Lead on curriculum development and assessment strategies to enhance pupil progress.

  • Oversee the professional development of staff, ensuring high-quality training and support.

  • Promote a culture of safeguarding, inclusion, and pupil wellbeing.

  • Foster positive relationships with pupils, parents, staff, governors, and the wider community.

  • Assist in school self-evaluation, development planning, and quality assurance processes.

  • Take a key role in behaviour management and pastoral care, ensuring a safe and respectful learning environment.

  • Deputise for the Headteacher in their absence, ensuring continuity in leadership.

Person Specification:

Essential:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with significant leadership experience in a primary school setting.

  • A strong track record of raising standards in teaching, learning, and pupil outcomes.

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • A deep understanding of the primary curriculum, assessment, and pedagogy.

  • Experience in staff development and performance management.

  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

  • The ability to inspire and motivate both staff and pupils.

Desirable:

  • NPQH (National Professional Qualification for Headship) or NPQSL (National Professional Qualification for Senior Leadership).

  • Experience working in an urban primary school setting.

  • Proven ability to lead change and school improvement initiatives.

  • Strong understanding of school finance and resource management.
