Engineering Risk Management Lead

£100-130k - excluding benefits

As an Engineering Risk Management Lead, you will hold a senior leadership position within the client, serving as an expert and visionary in the field of engineering risk management. You will provide strategic direction, thought leadership, and technical guidance to ensure our people, operations and communities are kept safe. Your expertise will directly contribute to the mitigation of our principal risks. You will drive innovation, foster collaboration, and elevate our organization's position as a leader in Environment, Health and Safety.

In this role you will be working closely with the engineering teams centrally and in each of the business units to improve our controls around risks associated with our operations to prevent impacts on safety, infrastructure, and business continuity

  • Directly manage a team of technical experts (1-5 direct reports) and indirectly influence wider team of Technical Authorities to support our global sites with identifying cost-effective ways to improve the engineering controls around risks
  • Contribute to the delivery of capital projects globally by providing engineering guidance on 'safety by design', contributing to our company safety targets and proactive risk management
  • Partner with EHS, engineering Technical Authorities, and the sites to improve the management of high-risk categories such as Process, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, and Functional Safety amongst others.
  • Create tools and governance to manage other engineering risk categories e.g.: Property Loss, Environmental Control, Regulatory Compliance, Engineering Quality Control, Disaster Preparation and Recovery, Engineering Change Management (MOC), Environmental Compliance
  • Establish and manage a Duty Holder Programme by creating tools, processes and governance for the Duty Holders to better manage safety & engineering risks in the business. This will include developing and deploying competency framework, maturity models, and training
  • Challenge our approach to safety by driving innovation and continuous improvement, with particular focus on improving our hierarchy of controls and bringing together internal and external experts to challenge accepted norms
  • Collaborate closely with stakeholders across the organization, including engineering, R&D, product development, operations, capital projects, EHS, and executive leadership. Champion a culture of collaboration, teamwork, and knowledge sharing to drive cross-functional innovation and success
  • Contribute to the development and rollout of the engineering standards, strategy, and ways of working across the business.

Skills and experience required

  • Engineering degree in chemical, mechanical, electrical, or approved equivalent discipline. Significant experience working in a chemical, oil and gas, pharmaceutical, steel, or other process related manufacturing environment
  • Experience in working with a major Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC)contractor on a project within the above industries.

  • Demonstrated examples of a stringent attitude to working safely in a manufacturing environment globally

  • Extensive experience in risk management roles with a track record of leadership and technical excellence
