We are currently seeking an experienced Technical Safety Engineer to take up a Principal / Lead role with a market-leading advisory company based in London. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in technical safety, risk management, and loss prevention within the global energy sector, with a particular focus on hydrogen, carbon capture and storage (CCS), and decarbonisation projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and execute risk studies, including QRA, FERA, and EERA, ensuring risk-based design and ALARP (As Low As Reasonably Practicable) demonstration.
  • Lead and participate in formal safety workshops, including HAZID, HAZOP, and SIL/LOPA, to identify and mitigate safety risks.
  • Develop expertise in Loss Prevention design, focusing on active and passive fire protection, blast protection, F&G systems, hazardous area classification, and the creation of design drawings.
  • Provide guidance on the UK regulatory framework, including Safety Case and COMAH (Control of Major Accident Hazards) development.
  • Work across a broad range of projects, applying a creative approach to safety engineering and risk management.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Engineering degree or Master's, preferably in Chemical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience, with the majority spent in the upstream oil and gas sector, either with a consultancy or operator.
  • Extensive experience in safety engineering and technical integrity within a major oil & gas organization.
  • Functional Safety Certification and HAZOP Leader certification are preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of safety engineering industry standards, guidelines, and regulations.
  • Proven expertise in scenario-based risk assessments, QRA, FERA, SECE identification, performance standards, and barrier development.
  • Experience with agile development and UX/User-Centered Design principles is a plus.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and facilitation skills.
  • Willingness to travel overseas as required for project assignments.
