Hours are 8.30 - 5pm - 37 hours a week

Salary is £84k

There is flexibility to where the ideal candidate lives, however they will need to be in our operating region on average two days per week, so if based within or close by that will be the ideal. The operating region covers Hampshire, Wiltshire, Somerset, Dorset, Devon, Cornwall and London.

We are looking for someone with significant, in-depth experience of managing or advising on health and safety at work issues in a medium to large sized organisation, as well as experience of safety in maintenance and building repairs. Significant experience of providing formal reporting to senior management is essential and substantial experience of affordable housing, housing for older people and property maintenance setting will be advantageous

Role PurposeTo lead and ensure effective health and safety compliance within the Over 55’s and housing sectors of the business. Support these areas to meet statutory health, safety, and welfare requirements, working closely with leadership to promote a positive safety culture and ensure the implementation of safety policies and plans.

Complexity and ImpactThis role operates strategically, advising senior leadership on health and safety issues, with decisions having a significant impact on compliance and safety outcomes. You will lead projects, perform risk assessments, and engage frontline teams to promote safety adherence. The role requires flexibility and occasional work outside normal hours to meet business objectives.

Resource ManagementManage your time effectively, liaise with stakeholders, and lead your team to deliver a high-quality health and safety service.

Key Accountabilities

  1. Provide expert health and safety advice and ensure consistent policies and procedures across the organization.
  2. Support the Over 55’s and Housing sectors, working with leadership to embed a proactive safety culture.
  3. Assist in developing and implementing health and safety plans, ensuring legal and regulatory compliance.
  4. Monitor health and safety standards, conduct audits, and report on performance to leadership teams.
  5. Maintain relationships with stakeholders to deliver practical and cost-effective safety solutions.
  6. Lead health and safety initiatives, ensuring adherence to relevant legislation and codes of practice.
  7. Collaborate with external bodies to ensure the organization meets appropriate safety standards and best practices.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Essential:
    • NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent.
    • Chartered Member of IOSH (or working towards).
    • Experience managing health and safety in a medium to large organization.
    • Experience with safety in maintenance and building repairs.
    • Strong reporting and policy development skills.
    • Proficiency in Word and Excel.
  • Desirable:
    • Experience in affordable housing, housing for older people, and care settings.
    • Knowledge of ISO 45001 and 9001.

  • Ability to manage, motivate, and inspire a team.
  • Analytical, problem-solving abilities, and a proactive approach to safety challenges.
  • Flexibility and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Full driving licence or ability to travel as required.
