Your new companyOur client is a leading wholesaler that works on behalf of all major national and regional publishers that delivers to over 20,000 customers - from large retailers to small independent businesses. They operate in the world's fastest and most complex supply chain, offering customers a wide range of services.Your new role

  • Responsible for the delivery of health, safety and environmental risk strategy of the business as set by the Head of Safety & Risk.
  • Delivery of ISO-certified safety and environmental management systems.
  • Subject-Matter Expert on Health and Safety, Environmental risk and Safety Culture. This includes all road transport and operational yard safety and third-party locations where they operate.
  • Ownership of company health and safety policies, training, and audit regimes, always ensuring that suitable and sufficient arrangements are in place and managed accordingly.
  • Responsible for the delivery of the Human Factors and Safety Culture Awareness program to the business in conjunction with the head of safety and risk, empowering the business to embrace and embed positive behaviours reinforced through a just safety culture.
  • Leading positive relationships and dialogue with principal internal and external stakeholders who have an interest in the business from a safe and legal perspective (Health and Safety Executive, DVSA, Local Authorities, Trade Associations and Bodies etc)
  • Ensuring that all incidents and accidents are fully investigated by trained competent colleagues, with all incidents escalated according to the nature or severity of the incident. Liaising accordingly with external stakeholders such as the emergency services and media.

What you'll need to succeed

  • NEBOSH General or equivalent
  • Qualifications and experience with ISO 45001 and ISO integrated systems.
  • Auditing qualifications and experience.
  • Environmental Risk qualifications.
  • Extensive Accident Investigation experience including full root cause analysis
  • Highly effective communication skills both orally and written, with the ability to negotiate and influence at senior level
  • A valid UK driving licence (company car may be provided).
