You'll have the autonomy to manage your team, drive project delivery, and make a real impact on urban mobility and public spaces across the UK.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Leadership: Lead and manage the design of highways and public realm projects, ensuring integration across disciplines and alignment with the consultancy's strategic vision.
  • Client Engagement: Act as the primary point of contact for clients, building strong relationships, understanding their goals, and delivering innovative, high-quality design solutions.
  • Design Excellence: Develop and implement sustainable, technically sound, and user-friendly designs for complex urban transport and public realm challenges.
  • Team Management & Mentorship: Lead and mentor a small team of 5 professionals, fostering a collaborative environment and providing guidance to support their professional growth.
  • Project Delivery: Oversee project timelines, budgets, and resources to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and meet client expectations.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure rigorous quality control on all project deliverables, maintaining high standards in design documentation, technical drawings, and reports.

Essential Requirements:

  • Experience: A minimum of 7 years in highways, transport, or public realm design, with proven experience in consultancy or leadership roles.
  • Design Expertise: Strong technical expertise in creating detailed designs for highways and public realm projects, including knowledge of industry standards and relevant design software (e.g., AutoCAD)

  • Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills: Strong ability to analyse complex design challenges and propose innovative, efficient solutions.
  • Qualifications: A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Urban Design, Transport Planning, or a related field. Chartered status (e.g., ICE, CIHT) is preferred.

  • Career Flexibility: This role offers the chance to develop in a direction that suits you—whether that's taking on a management role, or continuing to lead as a technical expert in design.
  • Professional Development: You'll have access to continuous training and development opportunities, with the potential for further career growth in both technical and leadership tracks.
  • Competitive Salary & Benefits: Attractive salary of £50,000 – £55,000 (negotiable dependant on experience), plus company pension, generous annual leave, and a discretionary annual bonus based on performance.
