Heating Engineer 

We are a London-based SME delivering mechanical and electrical services to both public and private sector clients. Our offerings range from one-off installations and servicing to large-scale capital investment schemes and planned preventative maintenance programs. We also provide a comprehensive 24/7 emergency call-out service year-round, ensuring our clients are supported at all times.

Due to expansion within our District/Communal Heating team, we are seeking experienced Heating Engineers who specialize in this sector. This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing team and contribute to the delivery of exceptional services across our London borough term contracts.

Key Responsibilities:

Diagnose and repair faults within properties served by communal heating systems.

Perform maintenance and improvement works, conforming to relevant technical standards and following technical drawings and plans.

Represent the company in a professional manner, ensuring customer satisfaction at all times.

Ensure all inspections and faults are reported in accordance with company, client, and regulatory guidelines.

Complete paperwork to the required standards.

Deliver high-quality work on time, meeting both customer and contract expectations.

Comply with current Health & Safety legislation and company policies while working safely at all times.

Qualifications & Certifications

Essential:

NVQ Level 2 in Plumbing & Heating/Mechanical Services/HVAC.

Desirable:

Unvented hot water certification.

ACS certification.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

Knowledge:

In-depth knowledge of mechanical and electrical components related to heating system repairs and installations.

Strong understanding of the Health & Safety at Work Act (HASAWA 1974) and safe working practices within the construction or building services sector.

Familiarity with district heating design principles and the components of in-dwelling heating systems.

Comprehensive understanding of communal heating systems.

Skills:

Excellent diagnostic and fault-finding skills, with the ability to replace defective parts as needed.

Strong technical competence in heating systems, particularly within multi-occupancy dwellings.

Proficiency in draining and re-filling heating systems and replacing faulty radiators or valves.

Ability to safely isolate and repair wet heating systems and controls.

Strong decision-making skills, with a pragmatic and efficient approach.

Effective communicator, capable of translating technical jargon into clear information for staff, clients, and customers.

High attention to detail, with the ability to interpret technical drawings and schematics.

Strong organisational skills, keeping workspaces clean and efficiently managed.

Ability to investigate and resolve heating system issues, providing detailed reports and recommendations.

Quick learner, adaptable to new processes and systems.

Experience:

At least 5 years of experience in installing, maintaining, and repairing heating systems in multi-occupancy dwellings.

HIU (Heat Interface Unit) experience is ideal but not essential.

Proven track record of troubleshooting heating systems while ensuring customer safety.

Experience using PDAs to communicate and report to planning/support teams.

Able to prioritise and manage workloads in a busy, fast-paced environment.
