SEN Teaching Assistant – Primary School in Hammersmith & Fulham

We are seeking a capable and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant to join a Primary School in Hammersmith & Fulham as a 1:1 Teaching Assistant for a Year 2 pupil with a diagnosis of ASC and ADHD.

This role is ideal for a confident graduate who has completed their degree and is looking to gain practical experience in the SEN/SEMH field. Aspiring Teachers, Counsellors, Wellbeing Practitioners, and Psychologists will find this experience invaluable.

About the Role:
  • Mainstream Primary School in Hammersmith & Fulham
  • September 2024 – July 2025 (Initial one-year contract with potential for extension)
  • £96.00 - £100.00 per day (inclusive of holiday pay), paid weekly on a PAYE basis
Responsibilities:
  • Support a Year 2 pupil with ASC and ADHD
  • Help the pupil remain focused, safe, and fully included in school activities
  • Assist in de-escalating challenging situations
  • Use negotiation techniques, sensory toys, and reward systems to help regulate emotions
As a 1:1 Teaching Assistant, you'll work closely with a bright and articulate pupil, supporting him in class to stay focused and on-task. Given his tendency to exhibit resistant behavior when frustrated, quick thinking and a calm approach are essential. Previous experience working with children with SEND is highly beneficial.

The school is equipped with excellent facilities, including a quiet reading area, which has been effective in calming the pupil in the past. This role offers both challenges and the rewarding opportunity to make a significant impact on a young person's education.
