About the role: EAL Teaching Assistant

Qualiteach is on the search for an EAL HLTA in the London borough of Haringey. The ideal candidate will be proactive and adaptable in their approach in supporting children that face difficulties with the English language. As such experience with EAL is mandatory. Ideally a specialist with astrongacademiclinguisticbackgroundto cover a temporary EALHLTArole up until Easter,with a view of this potentially becoming a permanentrole afterwards. Youwould need to be confident in assessing proficiency in English, leadingEAL lessons, support, plan, adapt and mark work as per their individual needs; lead EAL clubs, supportingstudents' acculturation into the country and providing guidance to mainstream teachers. Alsowould need to be confidentIT users.

Historically this role has been filled in by people with a linguistic degree (eg. English philology or similar) who may or not have had QTS at the time.
