Are you an experienced and inspirational History Teacher ready to lead a thriving department? We are currently seeking a dynamic and visionary individual to join a reputable secondary school in London as the Head of History, starting in September 2025.

As the Head of History, you will be responsible for leading and managing the History department, ensuring outstanding teaching and learning. Your key responsibilities will include:

Providing visionary leadership to the History department, inspiring and motivating a team of dedicated teachers.

Developing and implementing a dynamic and engaging History curriculum, aligned with national standards and the school's educational vision.

Planning and delivering high-quality History lessons across key stages, fostering critical thinking, analysis, and historical enquiry.

Monitoring and assessing student progress, providing constructive feedback, and implementing strategies to support their academic development.

Promoting cross-curricular links and interdisciplinary learning opportunities, collaborating with colleagues to enrich students' historical understanding.

Leading the coordination and administration of external examinations, ensuring compliance with examination board requirements.

Creating a stimulating and inclusive learning environment that encourages independent thinking, respect, and active participation among students.

Encouraging and supporting students' participation in historical research, competitions, trips, and extracurricular activities.

Building positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues, fostering a sense of community and enthusiasm for the subject.

Contributing to the wider school community by participating in departmental meetings, school events, and sharing best practices with fellow educators.

To be considered for the role of Head of History, you should meet the following criteria:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • A degree in History or a related field, with a strong academic background.
  • Proven experience as a successful History teacher, preferably within the UK curriculum.
