Primary HLTA [Higher Level Teaching Assistant) Year 6 Class

We are seeking a motivated and suitable experienced Year 6 HLTA to join a dedicated team at a vibrant Primary School in Croydon.

This is an exciting opportunity to make a positive impact on students' learning and wellbeing in a friendly and welcoming school.

Starting in December and running until initially July 2025, this HLTA role would be well suited to an experience Teaching Assistant seeking a step-up in responsibility or a HLTA seeking a new role. Graduates who are looking to gain experience prior to starting a PGCE should definitely look at applying for this role!

Primary HLTA - Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead small group sessions or parts of whole class activities in the absence of the class teacher.
  • Maintain excellent classroom management, ensuring students remain focused and engaged.
  • Provide effective pastoral support, fostering a positive learning environment and supporting pupils with emotional and behavioural needs.
  • Demonstrate strong timekeeping and initiative, ensuring tasks and responsibilities are completed efficiently.
  • Remain calm and professional when engaging with volatile parents, de-escalating situations where necessary.
Primary HLTA - Essential Skills and Experience:
  • Proven experience as an HLTA or in a similar role, ideally within a primary school setting.
  • Excellent behaviour management skills with the ability to maintain control in a busy classroom.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to offer support and reassurance to both students and parents.
  • Ability to take the lead when required, demonstrating confidence and a proactive approach to teaching and learning.
  • A calm and adaptable approach, capable of handling challenging situations with tact and professionalism.
  • Prior knowledge of SATs
