Are you passionate about supporting young people with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs who find mainstream education challenging? Do you have a talent for helping students thrive in a specialist environment?
I am currently seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join a specialist SEMH setting, providing tailored education to students who cannot attend mainstream schools due to their SEMH needs. In this role, you will be responsible for delivering the English curriculum to secondary-age pupils, playing a pivotal part in their learning journey.
I am looking to connect with experienced and committed HLTAs ready to make a difference in the East London area. This opportunity involves supporting both behaviour and learning within secondary classrooms and requires the ability to lead English sessions. Experience in teaching or classroom cover is a valuable asset for this role.
The students you will support are educated in a smaller pathway provision, separate from the main school site. These pupils face challenges in engaging with mainstream education due to their SEMH needs. Mornings are focused on core subjects, including English, and afternoons typically involve outdoor activities. As the HLTA, you will have allocated PPA time and will be the lead for the English curriculum at this site.
What we're looking for in a HLTA:
- Experience working with young people with SEMH, Autism, behavioural difficulties, trauma, sensory processing, and social communication needs.
- Confidence in planning and delivering English lessons at the secondary level.
- Previous experience as a HLTA, tutor, or leading small groups.
- The ability to build strong, positive relationships with students.
- A genuine passion for supporting young people with SEND.
What you can expect as a HLTA:
- Comprehensive training and experience, ideal for aspiring teachers.
- A unique opportunity to make a meaningful social impact—your role as an HLTA in this setting could change the course of a young person’s life.

If we don't contact you within 5 working days, unfortunately, your application has not been successful this time. However, we will retain your CV for future opportunities, and you're always welcome to reach out to discuss your career in SEND.
